Overview

The Master’s degree programme in Modern Philology aims to provide a thorough knowledge of Western literary traditions, with an eye on the Italian language and culture. Students will directly study the main authors and their most important works, also in relation to their historical context. Graduates in Modern Philology will acquire wide knowledge and solid skills in literary and philological fields and will be fully aware of the problems affecting the critical edition procedure, both in the middle age and in the contemporary and modern age. Graduates will therefore be able to master the analysis and description techniques of literary texts, consider them in an adequate historical-critical perspective and interpret them autonomously. Graduates are also proficient both in oral and written communication to critically convey information on the disciplines they have studied, including educational purposes.

Career opportunities

Graduates in Modern Philology will be able to perform high professional tasks in both public and private bodies operating in sectors such as culture, publishing, cultural information, advertising and entertainment. Graduates may also consider a career as teachers in schools, upon obtaining their teaching qualification and successfully participating in calls for teaching, pursuant the current regulations.
