Overview

The degree programme provides advanced scientific, speculative and operative methodological skills in archaeology and in history of pre-protohistorical, classical and medieval art. It also provides a solid foundation in ancient history and history of written sources.
The degree programme aims at developing abilities in cataloging, conservation, management and enhancement of the archaeological, artistic, documentary and monumental heritage through IT and telecommunication tools for monumental and archaeological areas surveys, classification of finds, image processing and IT management of scientific texts. It combines theoretical training with direct experience (work placement and workshops) within archaeological excavations. This kind educational path aims at strengthening previously gained skills in: methods for stratigraphic archeological digs, ground reconnaissance, use of graphic, photographic and topographic tools for surveys and computer processing of archaeological data.

- An English-taught study track – Applied sciences to art, archaeological materials and sites – is available starting from a.y. 2021/22

Career opportunities

The degree programme trains professional archaeologists able to work in: institutions such as (Superintendence of Archeology, Fine Arts and Landscape, national museums, archaeological parks, regional superintendence); companies, cooperatives, private groups collaborating with the bodies responsible for the protection of the archaeological heritage. These qualified graduates will be able to work as consultants for the designing and management of archaeological sites and parks; or as museum education officers in civic and public museums. They will be also qualified experts to be employed in study and research institutes concerning archaeological heritage within public and private bodies and foundations at local as well regional level. Graduates may also work in publishing houses, magazines and other media specialized in the archaeological field.
