Overview
The degree programme trains professionals capable of integrating third sector entities and institutions, such as banking foundations and public administrations. Combining an in-depth legal preparation with a foundational understanding of sociological, psychological and economic subjects, the programme aims to teach competences and skills applicable to volunteerimg, social enterprise, public sector, as well as in legal spinoffs of such subjects. It also delves into the basic cultural notions and adjust them to the experiences and activities relevant to the Third Sector; by this mean students will develop fundamental analytical skills applicable in the different contexts in which they are, or will be, involved in, in their professional future.
During their first year, students will study the fundamentals required for the acquisition of sophisticated legal skills and for operating in such contexts. The programme will begin by analysing the historical and philosophical roots that lead the West to recongise the collective subjects who pursue ideal, religious, philanthropic, and more socially useful purposes, in every sphere and with different modalities, up to the most recent developments, with a focus on European and international law.
The second and the third year are dedicated to an in-depth analysis actors, such as social enterprises and banking foundations, subject that helps in understanding studies in sociology and multiculturalism issues concerning the possible conflict between rules inspired by different ideologies. Integrated legal-economic courses in subjects such as third sector finance and financial law, fiscal law and accounting, represent one of the main characteristics of the programme aimed at proposing an overview of the inherent problems of the management of third sector entities.
The teachings are enriched by a practical dimension through workshops dedicates to concrete case-study analysis with a view to strengthen problem-solving capabilites and critical thinking.
A wide range of elective courses are also available for choice, from the planning lab for social arena to in-depth study of realities belonging to third sector in sport, psychological or educational services, cultural and tourism, and health care.
Career opportunities
The degree in Third Sector Law paves the way to management and executive opportunities within the non-profit entities, in social enterprises and in those that interact with the Third sector or that have adopted practices of social responsibility, as well as in administration or social planning consultancy, in international organizations that carry out social activities or in support of social and voluntary work.
