Overview
The educational program is designed to provide scientific basis and specific theoretical, practical and regulatory know-how on drugs and medicines required to the Pharmacist, a professional figure with unique competences and role in the healthcare field.
The Pharmacist is the “Expert of medicinal products”, who combines the knowledge of medicinal science with the pharmacy practice and management. The Pharmacist distributes medicines and informs about their correct use in order to yield therapeutic effectiveness, and avoid drawbacks due to their misuse or abuse. Furthermore, the Pharmacist informs about the appropriate use of other wellbeing products (cosmetics, dietary, nutritional and herbal products, medical devices, etc.).
In details, students in the first and second year will learn basic scientific disciplines (mathematics, physics, inorganic and organic chemistry, biochemistry, anatomy, physiology, microbiology). The third and fourth year will cover specific core subjects, such as medicinal chemistry, drug analysis, pathology, pharmacology, toxicology and pharmacovigilance, pharmaceutical technology and legislation). In the final year, students will be trained with specialized topics (medical devices, cosmetic and dietary products, phytocompounds, economy and marketing, clinical biochemistry, etc.); they will be trained with a mandatory six-month internship period in community or hospital pharmacy, and they will prepare the final work for dissertation that can be an experimental work in a research laboratory or a bibliographic and data elaboration work.
Therefore, the acquired competencies allow a wide variety of employment opportunities.
